What does receiving that word mean to you?
Indeed, when you get a word from God for the new year, it changes things. You feel His love, you feel seen, you feel significant. Still, it takes prayer to understand this expression from Yahweh and how it fits your life. At least it does for me, and it will evolve.
Stong’s says that word, or logos, is a transmission of thought. Communication is how we put our thoughts into words and out into the world.
Did you know that Jesus is the living logos or word?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1 NKJV)
The Bible is the written logos or word.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, as is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
(Hebrews 4:12 NKJV)
And the Holy Spirit utters the spoken logos or word.
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
(I Cornithians 2:13 NKJV)
You might not receive a word from God for the year without asking Him for one.
Then again, you might get several — one for you as a person, another as a couple, or one for your business.
There might be several ways to utilize your word. Can it be used as a noun and a verb? You might research the word for it’s history. Learning about the root word and its meaning could be interesting and helpful.
Can you spotlight your word this year? Is the word actionable?
So, my word of the year is commitment, which isn’t biblical. But the words commit, commits, and the word committed are all found in scripture.
I received my word today while I was taking part in a wisdom challenge. It is a Facebook group going through the book of Proverbs, one book a day.
Here is the sentence in which the Lord revealed this as my word. “ Without commitment, you can not withstand all that will come your way.”
Wow, it hit me right in the heart as I caught my breath. I told the Lord that I had been committed. Here is what I heard in my spirit, “No, my dear, that is why some things are unclear and you have struggled.”
Lord, I thought I had surrendered all?
Then the Lord said, “You have not pushed away the negative influences and self-talk in the last few months. There you are, worrying over everything as if you could do anything to change things without me. Now, I’m calling you to change your mindset. Have I not told you worrying does nothing positive? Have I not told you before to give me your burdens?”
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
(Matthew6:25 NKJV)
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
(Matthew 11: 28–30 NKJV)
Here, I prayed, Lord, please forgive me and help me commit completely to you daily. Amen.
Then, after the Wisdom Challenge ended for today, I was ready to see what the scriptures had to say about the word commit.
Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
(Psalm 37:5 NKJV)
Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.
(Proverbs 16:3 NKJV)
Reading those got my passion stirred up.
Now, I want to leap tall buildings to get things completed. I know I’ve been slack lately. Sometimes, it takes all my willpower to stay in the chair and write. Learning so many things myself takes so much time and effort, but I need to set up systems for productivity. I did get my new website designed, but I have struggled to get my blog posted. I laugh because I was a computer operator for many years, but the tech changes quickly.
Another area I need to recommit to is my marriage.
To make my husband more of a priority this year. Giving him a more peaceful wife will be a start. I excel at giving him a honey-do list and then not giving him the time to complete it before I have another list ready. Does anybody else do this? Please tell me I am not alone in this.
I must be more committed to you, my readers, to get words on the page.
The book I thought was ready two years ago is unfinished. I need to add content to make it a more valuable read, and writing about the Holy Spirit, I want it to be right. This last year, I joined a writers/author group and have been studying marketing, among other things. I shut down my website and newsletter at the beginning of the pandemic. A health scare of my own had me running on fear instead of turning to God. I knew better, yet that is what I did. Now, I am rebuilding my platform.
So, back to you, do you have a word for this new year?
What changes will you be making? What does the Lord want to show you in the coming months? Could He lead you into something new or away from something or someone? Is it to be a season of extraordinary growth in one area of your life? I would love to hear what word our good Father is whispering to you.
