And His role in your life

How much do you know about the Holy Spirit’s role as part of the Trinity? What about His role in your life here on earth? Do you know why Jesus said He would ask the Father to send Him, the Holy Spirit, to us?
First, let me insert here that Holy means sacred or consecrated to God. Trinity means three, and Spirit means breath or wind.
Jesus is speaking to the disciples shortly before the crucifixion:
“If you love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Helper, that he may abide with you forever; the Spirit of truth; who the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.” (John 14:15–17, NKJV)
- He is a Helper who will abide with you forever.
- He is the Spirit of truth.
- He will be in you.
It seems the disciples trusted Jesus so completely that they didn’t need to ask Him any questions about how this would happen. I would have been the one in the back with my hand up. Hey, dude, I trust you, but… Perhaps the disciples were so aware of Isaiah’s words is the reason they didn’t ask any questions.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9, NIV)
Then Jesus went a little farther to explain to the disciples what was to come and that He was giving them the gift of His peace.
“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:25–27, NKJV)
4. He will teach you all things.
After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:3–8, NIV)
5. You will have power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.
6. You will be Jesus’ witness.
7. The Holy Spirit is your Advocate (referred to in some translations as counselor, helper, comforter, and guide).
Here Jesus has a conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well.
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23–24, NIV)
8. The Spirit helps us worship.
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. (Ephesians 1:13–14, NKJV)
9. The Holy Spirit seals your redemption
Once you ask Him to give you all Jesus died on the cross to give you, your life will become so much more peaceful, happy, and joyful. He teaches and guides, empowers, loves, provides, and gives you joy.
10. The Holy Spirit is the portion of the Godhead that is available to us as an everyday experience.
He is here to help us live life in the world but to be able to stay away from the snares of Satan.
Satan tries to get in through our eyes and ears. Do you pay attention to what is coming into your mind through these entry points? He loves to keep you down, to keep you from witnessing, and keep you from expanding God’s Kingdom.
I believe the moment you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior; God sent the Holy Spirit to you. I also believe that the Holy Spirit, this advocate, teacher, helper, and guide, must be asked to work on your behalf.
